Specifically, a 21-year-old amateur soccer player, Caio Enrique, was killed by lightning during a match, while 6 players were seriously injured and ended up in the hospital!
The incident took place in the match between Santo Antonio da Platina and Uniao Japirense de Japira, for the first phase of the Regional Amateur Football Cup of Brazil. Apparently, the match was stopped instantly and did not continue after the unimaginable and tragic incident.
“We saw lightning that fell straight down. There were several players who were around the ball and the lightning struck only one. They all fell, some got up and some stayed down. They received help quickly, but unfortunately one died,” explained the Municipal Director of Sports of Santo Antonio da Platina to “RPC”.
