British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s approval ratings have fallen to record lows for him and are now similar to those of Boris Johnson shortly before he resigned from Downing Street in June 2019, a new poll shows.
According to a YouGov survey, 70% of respondents have a negative opinion of the prime ministercompared to 21% who express a positive opinion.
The remaining 49% represents a drop of ten percentage points for Mr. Sunak pthe relationship with the corresponding November poll.
At -16% only Conservative Party voters’ opinion of Rishi Sunak has also declined.
Boris Johnson had fallen to -46% shortly before his resignation, a figure that further declined to -53% a month later.
The worst performance, however, he had recorded Liz Truss, which in her short-lived premiership had seen her popularity plummet to -70%.
At -22% there is also the popularity of the main opposition Labor leader Sir Keir Starmer.
Overall in terms of the two major parties, the Conservative is at -49% in terms of popularity and Labor at -14%.
In terms of intention to vote in the next election, Labor has 42.3% against the Conservatives’ 25.2%. It is noteworthy that the Reform party, which is to the right of the Tories, having been founded with the support of Nigel Farage, has risen to 9.3%.
The YouGov poll came ahead of yesterday’s vote in the House of Commons on the controversial bill to send irregular migrants to Rwanda.
