The strategic importance of the US military presence in Greece is recorded in a report included in the US Defense Budget Bill (NDAA) for the year 2024.

In particular, in the text referred tothe updated Greece-US Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement (MDCA) pointing out that the said agreement reflects the joint commitment of Washington and Athens to promote peace and security in the wider region.

In addition, the text recognizes the importance of the American military presence in our country through the operational capabilities and the implementation of exercises it offers.

Finally, the relevant amendments that were initially voted on in the House version of the bill are not included in the final text, which is the product of a compromise between the two different legislative Houses of Congress.

A vote on the final version of the NDAA bill is expected to take place in plenary sessions of the House and Senate by the end of the week, and then it will be sent to the White House to be signed by President Biden before the end of the year.
