A storm with gale-force winds of more than 150 km/h has killed at least 13 people and caused major damage in Bahía Blanca, a coastal town in the southwestern tip of Buenos Aires province.

Mayor Federico Souvieles confirmed the number of victims through a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter).
The gale-force winds tore off roofs of houses and shops, while uprooting trees and electricity pylons.
Argentine President Javier Millay expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and urged the residents of Bahía Blanca to stay indoors today, as the intensity of the winds is not expected to subside in the next few hours.
