Supporters of the opposition are protesting for the second night tonight in Belgrade demanding the rerun of the municipal elections.
In front of the building where the offices of the Central Electoral Committee are located, a few thousand protesters have gathered, shouting “thieves” “thieves”.
Inside the building, two leaders of the “Serbia Against Violence” coalition, Marinika Tepic and Miroslav Aleksic, are continuing their hunger strike that they started yesterday in protest of what they say was rigged in the elections. The opposition claims that the election result in Belgrade was tainted by the participation of 40,000 Bosnian voters who voted without being citizens. Opposition lawyers have prepared objections to the irregularities recorded.
It is noted that foreign observers from the OSCE, the European Union and the European Parliament also found irregularities.
In the Belgrade municipal elections on Sunday 17 December, Aleksandar Vucic’s Serbian Progressive Party received 37.48% while the coalition
“Serbia against violence” received 34.38%.
In Serbia, mayors are elected by municipal councils. Given that there is no self-reliance, the solution will be called upon to be given by the conspiracy theorist, anti-vaccine doctor Branimir Nestorovic, whose party emerged as the third force in the capital’s municipality, receiving 6.58% of the vote.
