People who live at the South Pole on Christmas Day go for a run in the frozen landscape and because of the unique location they can cross all 24 time zones
The people who live in South Pole have found a unique way to spend their time during the festive season, they go for running in the frozen landscape.
And because of the unique location, the people who participate in this tradition of the modern era they can cross all 24 time zones on Christmas Day.
Michelle Endo has been working for the last year at one of the three permanent stations in Antarctica. Specifically, he works at the station closest to the geographic South Pole.
In her statements to the newspaper The Independent, Michelle Edo explained that in the morning the workers at the station organize a fun “Race Around the World”.
“It’s a 5km route around the geographic South Pole, so participants can run ‘around the world’ in all 24 time zones,” he explained.
“Some participants take it seriously, while others like to dress up in fun costumes or uniforms to do it,” said Michelle Endo.
“It’s the little things that make the difference and really boost morale,” he noted.
During the summer, Antarctica is home to about 5,000 people. Only about 1,000 people live there in research stations during the winter months.
