At least seven people have died in severe weather on Australia’s east coastwhere rescue crews continue operations today to locate missing people, while more than 80,000 households are still without electricity.

The victims, among them nine-year-old girlwere spotted in the states of Queensland and Victoria, which have been swept by heavy rains and strong winds since the day before yesterday, resulting in downed trees and flash floods.

Vessel with eleven on board capsized near Brisbane, as a result of which two people lost their lives from drowning. Police are searching for a missing crew member.

“The last 24 hours have been tragic because of the weather conditions,” Queensland Police Chief Katarina Carroll told reporters.

Salvage crews are “very concerned” about 46 years old that swept into a storm water drain in Gibi (East) and remains unaccounted for.

Two other women were swept away from the waters with her. One survived, the second is dead.

In Queensland they are expected “dangerous” weather phenomena“fatal” flooding, “giant” hail and potentially “catastrophic” winds are not ruled out, according to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.

More than 80,000 households were still without power earlier today, state utility Energex said. Yesterday Tuesday the company spoke of 120,000 residential customers affected by the outage.
