Extreme cold and dense fog have caused traffic chaos in India’s capital, Delhi, and other parts of northern India.

More than 100 flights and 25 train services have been delayed due to poor visibility.

The city experienced one of the foggiest days of the season so far, with visibility dropping below 50 meters on Wednesday.

A thick blanket of fog in the morning brought traffic chaos and there were no shortage of accidents.

Dense fog is common in the region at this time of the year as various parts of north and central India face cold waves.

Cold weather also continues in most parts of the northern states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Indian-administered Kashmir.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning, saying foggy conditions will continue for the next five days.

The extreme cold is particularly harsh on India’s homeless, who often sleep on roadsides and in train stations.
