Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that in a phone call with Pope Francis on Thursday, they discussed the peace plan drawn up by Kiev to end the war.

“We discussed our joint efforts aimed at implementing the Ukrainian peace formula,” Zelensky wrote in a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter). “More than 80 countries are already participating in this process, through representatives (of their governments). And more will follow,” he added.

The Ukrainian president also said he thanked the head of the Roman Catholic Church for his Christmas wishes, as well as his wish for “a just peace for all of us.”

He also announced that Ukraine’s peace formula would be discussed in Davos, Switzerland, without specifying a specific date.

As part of his peace efforts for Ukraine, Pope Francis has sent a special envoy – Cardinal Matteo Zuppi – to Kiev, Moscow, Washington and Beijing.

In his Christmas message, the pontiff called for an end to armed conflicts around the world, including those in Ukraine and the Middle East, stressing that “peace is possible” and “we must not give up trying.”

Last October, Zelensky said he had invited Pope Francis to Kiev. The president of Ukraine had traveled in May to the Vatican, where he met the head of the Roman Catholic Church.
