New Year travel plans for thousands of Britons – including trips to Disneyland Paris – were upended after Eurostar and Southeastern train services were canceled amid flooding in tunnels under the River Thames.

A total of 29 services between London and Europe were canceled after the tunnels at Ebbsfleet International in Kent filled with water.

National Rail says the disruption will continue – at least – until the end of the day, but furious customers claim they were not told of the risk of disruption before arriving at stations. Someone sent a message on Twitter to Eurostar, writing: “Thank you for ruining our Christmas break!”

Journalist Simon Calder, as the Daily Mail reports, said he spoke to families in tears after their trip to Disney was canceled just days before the New Year, while others were desperately looking for flights and ferries to keep their holidays from being ruined. . Apart from this incident of cancellations, there is also major disruption to Thameslink services – which run through London and the south east of England – due to staff shortages. Thameslink is a major 24-hour route on the UK rail network. The Met Office has issued wind, rain and snow warnings for large parts of the UK.
