Armed drone shot down today over Arbil airport in northern Iraq, where US and other international forces are stationed, two security sources said.

The security agency of the semi-autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan region, the Kurdistan Anti-Terrorism Agency, said in a statement that an armed drone launched by “illegal militias” against Arbil airport was shot down at 09:52 Iraqi time.

It is unclear whether the aborted attack caused any casualties or damage, the sources said.

The episode follows the downing of a drone over Arbil airport by anti-aircraft systems yesterday, Sunday, late in the afternoon. An organization called the Islamic Resistance in Iraq said it was behind the attack.

US and international forces based in Iraq and across the border in Syria have been put on high alert amid dozens of attacks on their bases since the Israel-Hamas war broke out in October.
