Ukraine is considering no alternative but to secure further military aid from the US and is confident that Congress will eventually give its approval for it to be released, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Wednesday.

“We don’t have a plan B. We are sure of plan A,” Kouleba said in an interview with the American television network CNN.

“Ukraine will always fight with the resources given to it. And (…) what is given in Ukraine is not charity. It’s an investment in protecting NATO and protecting the well-being of the American people,” he added.

Besides, Kuleba pointed out that if Russia wins the war, which has been raging for 22 months now, “other leaders will be tempted to follow in Russia’s footsteps. And ensuring security in this region of the world and deterring these leaders will require a much, much greater cost than the US.”

The Ukrainian minister noted that officials who say Russian President Vladimir Putin will never attack a NATO member country if the Kremlin achieves its goals in Ukraine “are making a huge mistake. And they will have to change jobs.”

US President Joe Biden’s administration has asked Congress to approve $61 billion in additional aid for Ukraine, but Republicans are refusing to vote for the package, demanding in return for tighter controls on the US border with Mexico in order to curb irregular immigration.
