THE conflict occurred between a local train and the Turanga train, a line connecting Surabaya (East Java) to Bandung, at 06:03 (local time; 01:03 Greek time) near the town of Kikalenga, not far from the city of Bandung, in province of East Java.

The Turanga was carrying 287 passengers, while another 191 people were on the commuter train.
One of the victims was an “attendant on the Turanga train” and the other two have not yet been identified, said Agep Hanepi, a spokesman for the PT KAI railway company.
All passengers were quickly removed from the wires and taken to a local hospital, according to Mr Tombo.
Transport accidents are not uncommon in Indonesia, a vast archipelago where buses, trains and even planes are often in very poor condition and poorly maintained.
In November, at least eleven people were killed when a train collided with a minibus at a crossing in eastern Java.
While in 2015, a similar accident, a collision between a commuter rail train and a minibus also at an unguarded crossing, had claimed the lives of 16 people in Jakarta
