“White” alert for New York: Weather services in the northeastern US today issued winter storm warnings, a cocktail of snow and freezing rain, which could hit the region of 25 million people in the coming days.

A “winter storm” warning has been issued for the entire weekend, from tonight until Sunday night.

Rain, snow, frost on the roads are expected with the possibility of power outages, uprooting of trees and possible chaos in road, rail and air transport.

New York City and its 8.5 million people have not seen significant snowfall in almost 2 years and in the winter of 2022, when the “blizzard of the century” and more than a meter of snow in New York state caused dozens of deaths.

For this weekend, from Boston to Washington, along the busy I-95 highway, “travel may be nearly impossible,” the National Weather Service (NWS) warned, as millions of area residents return from his holidays for the end of the year holidays.

In Boston and in the states of Massachusetts and Connecticut the height of snow could reach 30 cm.

The US weather service, however, points out the “uncertainty of the exact track and intensity of the winter storm”.

That didn’t stop New York State Governor Kathy Hokul from issuing emergency instructions to New Yorkers asking them to be “vigilant.”
