Russia launched dozens of missiles and drones at Ukraine overnight, the Ukrainian Air Force announced today, as Kiev asked its allies for more means to secure its air defenses.

“An enemy air attack was carried out with a total of 40 devices”, 37 missiles and three drones, the Air Force announced, adding that it destroyed eight missiles.

“More than 20 machines” failed to hit their target as they were deflected from their course by “electronic countermeasures”.

No details were given on the targets of the attack.

Most of the missiles fired overnight were high-speed ballistic missiles, the Air Force said. These missiles are much more difficult to shoot down.

Air defenses shot down Russian missiles in at least five regions across Ukraine, according to local officials in those provinces.

The large southeastern city of Dnipro was hit, the local governor said, also without detailing what exactly was hit.

Police in the northern district of Chernihiv released a photo of a large crater created by a downed rocket.

According to the police, the debris of the downed missile hit private homes and damaged buildings, one of which was practically destroyed. There were no human casualties, but a dog was killed, police said.
