Russian air defense systems destroyed at least three Ukrainian drones in the southwestern Russian region of Varonez, which borders Ukrainian territory, the Russian Defense Ministry announced in the early hours of the morning via Telegram.

Regional governor Alexander Gushev also reported via Telegram that an 11-year-old girl was injured when debris from a downed UAV fell on an apartment building in the city of Varonez, the regional capital of the same name.

It was reported that windows were broken in several apartment buildings and houses in Varonez. A fire in one of these buildings was quickly extinguished, assured Mr. Gusev.

There has been no comment from the Kyiv side so far. Ukraine has stepped up airstrikes in Russia in recent months, saying it is targeting Russian military infrastructure.

Near Varonez is an air base where Sukhoi Su-34 bombers of the Russian Air Force are stationed. Aircraft of the type are often deployed in Russian incursions into Ukraine.

According to a post by the Russian media outlet Shot on Telegram, at least 15 explosions were heard in the area of the base and debris from UAVs fell on a nearby apartment building.
