Eight people were killed Friday when a public transport bus was “pinned” to the back of a parked truck on a Santa Cruz highway in eastern Bolivia.
Officer Felix Cispe told reporters that the bus had departed from Santa Cruz de la Sierra bound for San Javier.
The minibus collided violently with the truck, killing seven adults and a one-year-old baby, he said.
Police released the bodies of the victims and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident, Kispe said, adding that the bus was believed to have developed high speed.
Pictures from TV networks and social media show the minibus “stuck” in the back of the truck.
Cispe pointed out that the driver of the truck had not taken the necessary traffic safety measures when the vehicle stopped, such as turning on the alarms and placing cones or an emergency triangle a few meters away.
