A fire broke out in a large oil storage area in southern Russia after a Ukrainian drone strike. This is the second attack on Russian oil facilities in two days carried out by the Ukrainians.

Russian media reports that four oil tanks were burnt and then the fire spread over an area of 1,000 square meters.

Russian authorities in the Bryansk region report no injuries. The governor of Brianx said that the drone was intercepted near the city of Clinchi but its explosives then fell on the oil depot.

Later, Ukraine claimed responsibility for the attack.

A source within the Ukrainian military intelligence service told AFP that this service, which is responsible for many operations in Russia, launched a drone against the warehouse in Bryansk, as for several weeks now Kiev has multiplied attacks on Russian territory.

The source added that drones were also fired at a gunpowder factory in Tabov, located nearly 500 kilometers from the border, but was unable to specify whether any damage was caused.

The drone attack is the second on Russian oil facilities in two days as on Thursday an unprecedented attack targeted a major oil loading terminal in Russia’s second city, St. Petersburg.

Russian authorities report that the drone was shot down without causing damage, but the attack so far from the Ukrainian border marks a new phase in Kiev’s strategy.

“Yes, last night we hit the target. This thing traveled 1,250 kilometers last night”the Minister of Strategic Industries of Ukraine said on Thursday, Oleksandr Kamyshin.
