US President Joe Biden spoke today by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the White House announced.

This was the first communication between the two leaders since December 23.

The US president and the Israeli prime minister, whose relationship is notoriously rocky, referred to “the latest developments in Gaza and Israel,” the White House said, promising to release more details of their conversation later.

It is recalled that yesterday Netanyahu, referring to the scenario for the period after the war in the Gaza Strip, stated that any solution in the foreseeable future must include the control of the Israeli army throughout the West Bank.

This, the head of the Israeli government emphasized during a press conference, is in absolute contradiction with the idea of creating a sovereign, independent Palestinian state.

In fact, he emphasized that in the talks he has with representatives of Washington, he resists attempts to dictate any reality that, according to him, would pose a threat to Israel’s security. “The prime minister of Israel must be able to say ‘no’ when necessary, even to our best friends,” Mr Netanyahu insisted.
