“The refusal to accept the two-state solution for Israelis and Palestinians, as well as the denial of the right to a state for the Palestinian people, is unacceptable,” said the UN Secretary-General.
“The right of the Palestinian people to build their own state must be recognized by all” and any “denial” of this right is “unacceptable”, said today the secretary general of the United Nations Antonio Guterresin his speech at the meeting of the Non-Aligned Countries, in Uganda.
“The refusal to accept the two-state solution for the Israelis and the Palestiniansas well as the denial of the Palestinian people’s right to a state are unacceptable,” Guterres said, warning that doing so would “indefinitely prolong a conflict that has become a major threat to global peace and security, exacerbating polarization and incites extremists around the world.”
The war in Gaza Strip started after her unprecedented attack Hamas, on October 7, on Israeli soil, in which 1,140 people, mostly civilians, were killed. About 250 were kidnapped and 132 of them remain hostages in Gaza, according to an AFP tally. Israeli authorities, however, estimate that at least 25 of the hostages have been killed. About 100 were released during the temporary ceasefire in late November.
In the Gaza Strip, the death toll from Israeli shelling and military operations has exceeded 24,000 – the majority of them women, children and teenagers, according to the Hamas-controlled health ministry.
On Monday, Antonio Guterres called for an “immediate ceasefire” for humanitarian reasons in Gaza.
