Its president Union of Values and its former head Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution Hans-Georg Maassen will start the procedures for establishing a party, he announced earlier today in Erfurt.

According to Mr. Maassen, the majority of the members of the Union, which until now was considered to belong to the Christian Democratic Party (CDU), voted to transfer the naming rights to the party being founded. By the same decision, Mr. Maassen was instructed to start the establishment of a “conservative-liberal party with this name”, with the aim of participating in the state elections to be held in the autumn in Thuringia, Saxony and Brandenburg.

As noted by Mr. Maassen, he announced to CDU his departure and the establishment of a new party already at the beginning of the month. According to the revelations of the “Correctiv” research network about the meeting held last November by its executives Alternative for Germany (AfD) with neo-Nazi organizations, with the object of the plan of mass deportations, in Potsdam two members of the Union of Values were also present.

And on the CDU’s side, however, party leader Friedrich Merz has expressed in the past his will to sever relations with the Union of Values and even to make it incompatible for someone to be a member of the party and the Union at the same time.
