The Israeli military today announced the death of a soldier killed on October 7 in an unprecedented attack by Hamas on Israel, clarifying that his body is in Gaza Strip.
“Sergeant Sy Levinson, 19, fell on October 7” and “his body is in the hands of Hamas,” the Palestinian Islamist movement that has controlled Gaza since 2007. The young soldier lived in Givat Avnia village in northern Israel and was serving in a combat unit.
The announcement brings to 28 the number of hostages killed and their bodies held in the Gaza Strip, based on an AFP tally based on Israeli intelligence.
From her attack Hamas approximately 1,140 people were killed in Israel, most of them civilians. That day, the attackers took about 250 hostages and took them to Gaza – some of them injured. About 100 hostages were released at the end of November, but according to the Israeli authorities, 132 still remain in Gaza.
According to data from the Hamas Health Ministry, 25,105 people have been killed and another 62,108 injured in Gaza since the war. Most of the victims are women, children and teenagers.
