Will the successful strategy of the 2022 election have the same results in this year’s presidential election? THE Joe Biden intends to emphasize until November that a possible victory of Donald Trump will significantly undermine American women’s right to abortion.

Kamala Harris, whom the 81-year-old has chosen again for the position of vice president, has taken it upon herself mainly to convey this message.

The US vice president will today pledge to defend American women’s access to abortion from the Wyomingone of the swing states that will play an important role in the November election.

Harris will then join Biden in a rally dedicated to the same issue in Virginia.

The Biden-Harris campaign, which has ramped up its anti-abortion campaign, also released video in which Austin Dennard of Texas recounts “a woman’s worst nightmare.”

The gynecologist and mother explains that after learning that the fetus she was carrying would not survive, she was forced to travel to another state to have an abortion due to extremely restrictive laws in Texas.

“Because of Donald Trump,” she says in the video, looking directly into the camera.

Roe v. Wade

More specifically, it refers to the former president’s role in the June 2022 reversal by the Supreme Court of a previous decision that protected women’s right to abortion.

Today, January 22, marks 51 years since the ruling in the famous Roe v. Wade case.

But the right of the American women received a very strong blow a year and a half ago: the Supreme Court, which has a conservative majority thanks to three new justices appointed by Trump during his term, has ruled that the US Constitution does not guarantee women’s right to an abortion and has allowed each state to legislate on it.

Since then about 20 American states, mostly in the southern part of the country, have banned or placed very strict restrictions on abortion.

Trump, favorite to win the Republican nomination for the presidential election and consequently Biden’s opponent again for the White House, he recently declared that he was “proud” to have been able to contribute to the overturning of the “Roe v. Wade” decision.

Democrats used that statement to stress that, if he wins again, the 77-year-old billionaire might ban abortion at the federal level.

Polls show that a majority of Americans today favor abortion rights. Moreover, thanks to this issue, losses for the Democratic party were limited in the midterm elections of the fall of 2022, at a time when analysts expected a sweeping victory for the Republicans.

Abortion rights advocates then scored major victories at the local level as well.

Now Biden wants to believe that the mobilization to protect this right will remain strong and influence the presidential election.

Besides, the 59-year-old Harris, the first female vice president of the USA, is plowing the country and focusing her speeches on the issue of abortion.

He recently won a rare compliment from a reporter for the conservative Fox News. “What Kamala is doing (advocating for abortion rights) is having a powerful impact on young women,” said former Trump spokeswoman Kaylee McEnany.

Abortion access “is going to be a big issue in states where it’s not protected,” said Melissa DeRosa, a Democrat.

“In the states where people appreciate that this right is protected (…) they will be more concerned with economic issues, immigration issues, crime issues,” she predicted.

It remains to be seen what effect the issue will have on the opposing camp, those anti-abortionists who seem unstoppable despite the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Several thousand protesters took to the streets of Washington on Friday, despite the snow, chanting: “Abortion is murder.”
