Ukrainian intelligence services (GUR) reported that they do not have “reliable information” about the passengers of the Russian plane which was shot down earlier today in the Belgorod region.

According to Moscow, 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war were on board the plane.

“We currently do not have reliable and complete information about the people on board the plane or their number,” GUR said. “Today there was supposed to be an exchange of prisoners, but it did not take place,” added the military intelligence service, assuring that Ukraine “had not been informed” and was not asked to guarantee security around the Belgorod region, as had happened in previous prisoner exchanges.

Earlier in a statement, Russia’s defense ministry accused Ukraine of “neglecting the lives of its citizens” and said the exchange was agreed for the afternoon at the Kolotilovka checkpoint on the Russian-Ukrainian border. The Ukrainian leadership knew that Ukrainian military personnel would be transported by military transport aircraft, the Russians added.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military vowed today to continue targeting the Belgorod region and Russian warplanes to protect Ukraine from bombing, hours after a Russian Il-76 transport plane crashed near the border with Ukraine.
