London, Thanasis Gavos
The annual list with their names one hundred more heavily taxed citizens in the United Kingdom was published by the Sunday Times newspaper.
At the top of those who paid the most money and this year, for the second year in a row, there is one stockbroker who renounced his Russian citizenship because of the invasion of Ukraine, Alex Gerko.
The now British 44-year-old businessman, who as a young man studied mathematics in Moscow, paid the £664.5m (€779m), mainly because of the £1.2bn dividend he received from brokerage firm XTX.
At second place ranks the Formula 1 tycoon Bernie Ecclestonewith a tax bill of £652.6m.
Unlike Gerko, who has said he is happy to pay his fair share of taxes, the high amount paid to the taxman by 93-year-old Ecclestone is mainly due to a fine of around 400 million for past tax fraud.
In the list of the hundred heaviest taxpayers in Britain there is also a Greek name, that of the family Lazari.
The descendants and heirs of his British family giant real estate created by the Cypriot Chris Lazaris paid the IRS the amount of 15.8 million pounds according to the Sunday Times Tax List. How much ranks the family in position No 70 of the list.
From the rest of the names on the list, those of the author of the Harry Potter books stand out JK Rowling (position 31 to 40 million pounds), the songwriter Ed Sheeran (£32.39.6m) and the boxer Anthony Joshua (£88.12.2m).
