Members of the Israeli armed forces killed a Palestinian during an exchange of fire in the occupied West Bank as they prepared to demolish the house of a man accused of killing an Israeli, the Palestinian Ministry of Health and eyewitnesses said today.
The incidents erupted late Sunday night in the village of Silat al-Harithiya, the home of a Palestinian man arrested and accused of opening fire on a car, killing an Israeli near the Jewish settlement of Homs on December 16.
Eyewitnesses reported that soldiers and Palestinian gunmen exchanged fire after a force from the Israeli armed forces arrived to proceed with the demolition. The Israeli army clarified that it would demolish the floor of the building where the alleged perpetrator of the attack lived.
Hundreds of Palestinians hurled stones and Molotov cocktails at the militants, who responded by using “riot gear” and “fired gunfire when they spotted him,” according to the Israeli military, which did not confirm or confirm.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, one Palestinian was killed and ten others were injured.
The Israeli authorities claim that the demolition of the houses of the perpetrators of attacks is preventing future ones. Human rights organizations condemn this practice, which is characterized as collective punishment, as relatives of the alleged perpetrators and others live in these houses.
