The war rages on in Ukraine, with Russia and Ukraine continuing their drone attacks. Russia at night launched a total of 35 drones of one direction and two guided missiles against Ukrainian energy and military infrastructure near the front line and in other areas, the Ukrainian Air Force announced today.

The Air Force General Staff reported via Telegram that air defense systems they destroyed 15 of the Russian drones. He did not make clear whether the remaining twenty hit their targets. It is also unclear whether the two missiles, which were allegedly fired by an S-300 (air defense system) hit their targets.

Russia destroyed 21 Ukrainian drones

For its part, Russia says that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 21 remote-controlled unmanned aerial vehicles in the airspace of the Crimean peninsula and at least four Russian regions overnight, as reported by Russian news agencies citing the Ministry of Defense.

Eleven of the drones were shot down over Crimea, according to the RIA. The peninsula was annexed to Russia by Ukraine in 2014, a move condemned by Kiev and its Western allies.

Mikhail Razvazaev, the mayor of Sevastopol in Crimea, said via Telegram that there were no casualties or damage in the peninsula’s largest city and major port, for decades the base of Russia’s Black Sea fleet.

Ukrainian UAVs were also shot down in Tula, Kaluga, Bryansk and Belgorod regions, Russian news agencies report.

Debris fell on a building in a suburb in the city of Kaluga, however, no injuries were reported, nor was there any serious material damage, according to regional governor Vladislav Sapsa.

Ukraine has increased its drone and missile attacks on Russia the last months. Kiev says it is hitting military infrastructure to reduce Russia’s ability to continue the war — the “special military operation,” in its own terminology — ordered by the Kremlin in February 2022.
