Authorities in New Zealand dispersed protesters with … Macarena and Baby Shark

by

Its principles New Zealand use songs by Barry Manilow, “Baby Shark” and “Macarena” in an attempt to force anti-sanction protesters to leave the garden in front of the country’s parliament, which they have occupied for days, but causing the reaction of the police who do not approve of these methods.

The protest started a week agoWhen a convoy of trucks and cars from all over the country gathered in front of parliament in Wellington, inspired by the protests against the restrictive measures due to covid-19 taking place in Canada. More than 1,000 protesters had initially gathered outside parliament, but the number began to decline during the week, before rising again on Saturday.

Yesterday Sunday Parliament Speaker Trevor Mallard said it approved the use of loud music to force protesters to leave, with loudspeakers constantly playing songs by Barry Manilow and Macarena, as well as messages in favor of the covid-19 vaccine.

The protesters did not seem to be scared and they responded with their own songs, among them “We’re not gonna take it” by Twisted Sister.

The police adopted a mild attitude towards protesters after an attempt on Thursday to expel them with violence from Parliament’s garden during which engagements broke out and more than 120 arrests became.

Mallard on Friday said he was changing tactics and called on parliament’s staff to turn on the garden’s automatic watering system overnight.

“Anyone here is not legal and if they get wet from below as well as from above, they are more likely to feel less comfortable and more likely to go home,” he explained.

However, Wellington Police Chief Corey Parnell disagreed with Mallard’s methods, which appear to have strengthened the protesters’ resolve.

“These are certainly not tactics or methods that we approve of and would rather not have happened,” he told Radio New Zealand, urging protesters to move their vehicles, which continue to block Wellington streets.

THE New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has declined to comment on the new methods used by the speaker, but opposition lawmakers have criticized Mallard.

“Mallard’s actions are (…) shameful and ineffective,” National Party MP Chris Bishop wrote on Twitter.

“Not only are Mallard’s fat people immature, they are not only ineffective, they have made a serious situation even worse,” said David Seymour, leader of the ACT opposition party.

Protesters are protesting against the mandatory vaccination against covid-19 imposed on some workers such as teachers, doctors, nurses, police and military personnel. Many also oppose the mandatory use of a mask.
