Three US service members were killed and at least 34 wounded in a drone attack by Iran-backed militants on US troops in northeastern Jordan
THE US President Joe Biden said today that he has decided how to respond to a drone strike that killed US servicemen in Jordan, as he aims to punish Iran-backed militants without seeking a wider war.
Speaking to reporters shortly after leaving the White House to campaign in Florida, Biden did not elaborate on his decision, which was made after consultations with senior White House advisers.
He also said the United States does not need a wider war in the Middle East, responding to statements today by other officials that the United States does not want a war with Iran.
Biden is weighing his options and the expectation was that there would be retaliation, but the timing of the response was unclear.
