The United States began carrying out retaliatory strikes in Syria and Iraq on Friday, three US officials said, after a deadly attack in Jordan that killed three US soldiers and wounded nearly 40 others, which Washington blamed on groups supported by Iran.

The strikes by the US military on Friday in Syria, as reported by ABC and Fox News television networks, took place shortly after the official reception on American soil by President Joe Biden of the bodies of the three soldiers, who were killed on Sunday near the Syrian border .

The US Central Command (CENTCOM), which is militarily responsible for the Middle East region, said US forces “conducted airstrikes in Iraq and Syria against the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and paramilitary groups cooperating with it”.

As it states, “US military forces hit more than 85 targets, with numerous aircraft, including long-range bombers flown from the United States. The airstrikes used more than 125 precision munitions.”

It further states that “facilities affected included command and control operations centers, intelligence centers, rocket and missile and drone depots, as well as supply chain and ammunition supply facilities of militia groups and their IRGC sponsors that facilitated attacks against of US and Coalition forces”.
