With the slogan “We are the mound,” the “Hand in Hand” alliance is also organizing anti-far-right demonstrations across Germany this weekend. The largest gathering is expected to take place in Berlin, where police estimate that at least 100,000 people will participate.

They have coordinated for the demonstrations more than 1,700 organizations, with the aim of the reactions against the Alternative for Germany (AfD) to escalate and expand in the near future. Especially in Berlin, the organizers plan to form a human chain around the Federal Parliament building. Their aim is, according to the relevant announcement, to exert the greatest possible pressure on the democratic parties, as they believe that so far they have not reacted as they should to the rise of extreme forces. In today’s demonstration, however, they have already announced that they will be “present” by many members of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), the Greens and the Left, while the demonstrations against the extreme right were welcomed yesterday by the Parliament both Chancellor Olaf Solz and its leader Christian Democratic Party (CDU) Friedrich Merz.

In addition to Berlin, demonstrations have been announced for today and tomorrow in Frankfurt, in Dresden, Potsdam, and other cities.
