Iran will not hesitate to respond to any US attack on its soil, the spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry said today, after the White House did not rule out the possibility of directly hitting Iran.

The US on Friday carried out a series of strikes against elite Iranian forces and armed pro-Iranian groups in Syria and Iraq in response to the January 28 killing of three US soldiers in Jordan.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Saturday that the US would continue its retaliation and did not want to rule out the possibility of a direct attack on targets located in Iran.

“The Islamic Republic she won’t hesitate to use her skills to provide an answer which will make the aggressors regret,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani reacted today during his weekly press conference.

“Others have already seen this ability and this power and will calculate it a hundred times before any evil action,” he added.

On Saturday, the US and Britain announced they had bombed dozens of targets in Yemen in retaliation for repeated attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels against shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

Kanani condemned the strikes in Iraq, Yemen and Syriacalling them “illegal” and “risky actions” and noting that they were carried out as part of “a policy of full support” of Israel.

The Houthis say they are acting in “solidarity” with Palestinians in Gaza, which is torn by war between the Israeli army and the Islamist Palestinian movement Hamas.

US forces announced yesterday, Sunday, that they had carried out airstrikes against five missiles in Yemen that were being prepared to be launched against ships in the Red Sea.

Tehran “does not seek to exacerbate tensions and crises in the region and has never supported tensions and crises,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman noted today.
