Hid Rajab, a six-year-old Palestinian girl missing for nearly two weeks amid clashes in Gaza City, has been found dead by relatives, Hamas and her family said today, blaming Israeli forces for her death.

The girl was found this morning in a car near a gas station in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood after Israeli tanks withdrew from the area at dawn, her family told AFP.

“Hid and everyone in the car were killed,” Baha Hamada’s grandfather told AFP. “They were discovered by members of (our) family who were looking for the car and found it near the gas station,” an area that until then was inaccessible due to the presence of the Israeli army, he explained.

“Hid Rajab was killed by the (Israeli) occupation forces along with all those who were with her in the car,” Hamas’ health ministry said in a statement.

Her family told AFP this week that the girl and other family members were driving in Gaza City when they were confronted by tanks, which apparently opened fire on them.

Hid Rajab was initially reported to have survived, according to a phone call made to her family. But no one has heard from her since then, including the Palestinian Red Crescent group that went looking for her, according to her family.

The Israeli military did not respond to AFP questions about the shooting at a vehicle full of civilians or the fate of the missing.
