Farmers from southern and central Italy are set to demonstrate on Thursday evening in Rome’s Circo Massimo area
Farmers from southern and central Italy are set to demonstrate on Thursday evening in Rome’s Circo Massimo area. According to the information so far, approximately twenty thousand people, with fifteen tractors, are expected to take part in the mobilization.
At the same time, the organizers added that fishermen, drivers and truck owners and a number of freelancers are also likely to participate in the demonstration.
This mobilization is organized by the “Italian Peasants Who Have Been Deceived” movement. However, a significant part of the country’s farmers is not going to support the initiative. These are the members of the “Agricultural Liberation” group, who last Friday met with the Italian Minister of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigida, and are now awaiting the government’s final proposals.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has proposed a tax exemption for farmers with an income of up to ten thousand euros a year, while pledging to continue fighting against “synthetic meat” and to take initiatives aimed at increasing farmers’ profit from the sale of their products.
According to reports, the government in Rome hopes to sign an agreement with the farmers who came to dialogue, possibly by Tuesday.
