A man and woman allegedly among the perpetrators of an armed attack on a youth festival in December in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato, where 11 people were murdered, have been taken into custody, the state prosecutor’s office announced Sunday.

As of this stage, the prosecution has not revealed what was the motive for the attack. According to Mexican media, it may have been a case of extortion, or the result of a conflict.
The prosecutor’s office released a video of the two arrested persons. They are shown wearing the uniforms of a private security company.
In Guanajuato, over 3,000 people were murdered in 2023, the highest number in the country. The industrialized state has become a theater of conflict between the Santa Rosa de Lima and New Generation Jalisco cartels, which are mainly involved in drug trafficking and fuel theft, among other things.
