In his youth he was one of the greatest divers in Asia and the best in Iran.

Today, with a century of life behind him, Taghi Askar continues to dive in championship events and recently did not hesitate to travel to Doha where the World Aquatic Championships are held.

Once again he stood on the platform and from a height of one meter he dived, winning the applause of those in the stands.

He said excitedly: “When I was competing at the national level, the last championship I participated in was when I was 41,” said the 100-year-old, and continued: “I have always loved diving since I was a teenager until now. Nothing has changed from 1951 to now, except my performance.”
