Russia on Tuesday declared Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kalas “wanted”.

In particular, the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia listed Kalas as “wanted under the criminal code”.

Estonian Deputy Minister Taimar Peterkop and Lithuanian Culture Minister Simonas Kairys were also added to the same list.

What are the categories?

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov later said that Kalas and the Baltic MPs had been put on the wanted list for hostile actions against Russia and “desecration of historical memory”.

“These are people who carry out hostile actions against our historical memory and our country,” Peskov told reporters.

A Russian security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Russian state news agency TASS that the three are being prosecuted for “destroying monuments to Soviet soldiers” in World War II.

Kalas is among the staunch supporters of Ukraine after Russia invaded in February 2022.

He has been one of the strongest voices in the European Union and NATO in favor of providing more weapons to Ukraine.
