THE American Armington Remington ended up in agreement with families of victims of the massacre at Sandy Hook the 2012according to a court document released today.
“The plaintiffs in this appeal inform that an agreement on the payment of compensation has been concluded between the parties,” the document released by the families of the victims states.
According to media, the agreement provides for the amount of $ 73 million.
The families of victims had filed lawsuits against the arms manufacturer and its subsidiary Bushmaster, claiming that it had knowingly sold a version of an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, a “completely unsuitable” military weapon, to private individuals.
The weapon this was used by Adam Lanza to kill 26 peopleincluding 20 children, on December 14, 2012 at the Sandy Hook School in Newton, Connecticut.
It was also used in the armed attacks in Las Vegas in 2017 (58 dead) and in Parkland, Florida (17 dead) in 2018.
“When the military is looking for the best weapon, the deadliest, the most destructive (weapon) and the one that could be used by our soldiers, if they had to kill the enemies of our country and our freedom, they would choose the AR- 15 “, said the lawyer of the families Joshua Koskov, during a press conference.
In March 2019, the Connecticut Supreme Court ruled that Remington could be tried to determine if its semi-automatic rifle ads were responsible for the attacks, in which many people were killed.
At the hearing in November 2017, Koskov relied on Bushmaster’s marketing, which he said had featured the AR-15 in its advertising campaign as an offensive weapon.
“This weapon was not promoted for sport or self-defense,” he said at the time.
