US forces seized advanced conventional weapons and other similar material from Iran which was intended for areas of Yemen controlled by the Houthis on a ship in the Arabian Sea on Jan. 28, the US Joint Chiefs of Staff for the Middle East (CENTCOM, “Central Command”) announced today.

More than 200 packs containing medium-range ballistic missile components, explosives, unmanned underwater vehicle/unmanned surface vehicle (UUV/USV) components, military-grade communications and network equipment, anti-tank guided missile launchers and other military components were discovered on board, it said.

“Iran’s continued supply of advanced conventional weapons to the Houthis continues to undermine the safety of international shipping and the free flow of trade,” said Centcom CEO Michael Eric Kurila.

Yemen’s Houthi fighters have repeatedly fired drones and missiles at international merchant ships since mid-November in what they say is solidarity with the Palestinians against Israel’s military actions in Gaza.

CENTCOM even announced earlier that its forces carried out four strikes yesterday, Wednesday, in areas of Yemen controlled by the Houthis, from where the Iranian-backed militia was preparing to target ships in the Red Sea.
