Nelson de Sá: China is moving away from Bolsonaro’s Brazil, warns Economist

by

The Economist magazine reports that “Bolsonaro’s rhetoric has not helped” and Brazil’s relationship with China “is weakening” (illustration below). Trade grew in 2021, “but China is increasingly cautious about investing in the country.” The magazine advises:

“Brazil should be doing more to attract investment, but its efforts tend to be sporadic, driven more by state politicians than the federal government. São Paulo, for example, set up an office in Shanghai in 2019, credited by Governor João Doria for helping him to close with Sinovac for Covid vaccines.”

Tatiana Prazeres, a columnist for Folha, tells the Economist that “there is a perception among some senior Brazilian officials that China is more dependent on Brazil than vice versa.” Conclusion of the magazine:

“The presidential election in October will help determine the future of the relationship. Lula beats Bolsonaro by a wide margin in most polls. If he becomes president, there is little doubt he would try to mend ties. But attracting Chinese investors could be more difficult. the second time.”

EUROPEAN MODEL

squid was interviewed by the public TV network NRK, from Norway, who highlighted that, in the words of the “favorite” in this year’s election, “the Norwegian society of social welfare is a model for Brazil”.

About Bolsonaro, the former president said that he “does not understand the economy, he does not understand poverty and he does not understand what social inclusion is”, ending: “The only thing he can do is lie and advertise weapons”.
