It took a few months, but one Florida man finally found what was bothering him.

Jacksonville doctors removed 150 live maggots in the larval stage from the nose and sinuses of a cancer patient, according to a New York Post report.

The man had been feeling unwell since October, but it wasn’t until his face and lips became swollen on February 9 that he sought help at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital.

“I started getting nosebleeds, constant nosebleeds”the man told First Coast News. “I couldn’t even get up to go to the bathroom without my nose bleeding.”

Worms

However, things at the hospital took a different turn… “When I went for the exam, the doctor says, ‘I see movement,'” the man said.

Dr. David Carlson told the agency that he examined the man’s nose with a camera and discovered dozens of worms feeding inside the nose and sinus cavity, which caused inflammation in the unfortunate man.

Worms

“There were some larvae inside the nose that were wandering around looking for places to feed and others that had burrowed into the tissues.”

Carlson said his team tried to remove the worms with suction, but when it got stuck, they used different tools to get them out.
