Scandal with Saudi businessman at Prince Charles Foundation – What Scotland Yard is investigating

by

Scotland Yard has announced the launch of an investigation into suspicions that donations to Prince Charles’s institution were in exchange for honors and, in one case, facilitating the acquisition of British citizenship by a Saudi businessman.

“The Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation into allegations of breaches of the 1925 Honor Act,” Scotland Yard said in a statement, adding that no arrests had been made.

Police contacted “persons suspected of having relevant information” and had links to the Prince’s Foundation, which “provided some relevant documents,” the statement said.

Former Prince Charles Fawcett’s former personal aide is suspected of using his influence to help Saudi businessman Mahfouz Murray Mubarak bin Mahfouz, the Foundation’s generous donor, receive a medal.

According to the Sunday Times, the Saudi was awarded a medal during a private ceremony at Buckingham Palace in November 2016. The event was not included in the published official list of royal events. According to the newspaper, the award made it easier for the businessman to obtain British citizenship.

Mahfouz Murray Mubarak bin Mahfouz, who denies any wrongdoing, had funded large-scale projects of the Prince Charles Foundation. Michael Fawcett resigned in November 2021.

At the same time, the British press revealed that the institution of the future king has received hundreds of thousands of euros from a Russian sponsor, which prompted the launch of an investigation by the independent organization that regulates the activities of charities in Scotland. The president of the foundation resigned, denying any responsibility.
