A minute’s silence at Valencia City Hall in memory of the victims
Police have found another body, the tenth, in the wreckage of the 14-story apartment building in Valencia, eastern Spain, destroyed by a fire that broke out on Thursday afternoon, authorities said today.
The fire started on Thursday afternoon from the fourth floor of the building which was erected fifteen years ago in the affluent district of El Campanar, but the authorities have not announced the cause of the fire. A local prosecutor has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident. Due to the strong winds that were blowing, the fire spread with great speed to all floors and none of the total 138 apartments of the complex escaped the flames.
Yesterday afternoon, the authorities wrote on the “X” platform that the police revised the death toll from 10 to 9 during the process of identifying the bodies found inside the building.
However, in a new announcement on the “X” platform, the authorities confirmed that a tenth body was found this morning.
Last night, about 100 survivors were taken to hotels.
Today – the second day of the three days of mourning declared by the authorities after the accident – a minute’s silence will be observed at Valencia’s town hall.
The local residents are trying to help the surviving occupants who lost all their belongings by offering clothes, food and medicine in every possible way.
