His name is Michael – not Michalis. He clarifies this with a refrain of the type “that’s what my parents call me since I was little”; a refrain from which he does not get rid of throughout our meeting. In the small cafe, next to the Ilissia theater where he plays, Michael Tabakakis recounts how a child who was hermetically sealed, “opened up” in the theater. How the theater was not an expected choice but he had made his decision. How the theater helped him to understand himself. How his inherent consistency is channeled methodically into his art.

Certainly not a typical case of an actor of his generation starting out hesitantly. On the contrary, graduating from the National Theater drama with an ideal debut he continues to make cutting-edge choices – even if this, especially on television, is not always possible.

This year, we meet him in MEGA’s super hit “The Shipwreck”, in the theatrical adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s best seller “The Talented Mr. Ripley” at the Ilisia Theater directed by Petros Zoulias while he is looking forward to the second step of his collaboration with Vassilis Kekato, after the much talked about ‘Milky way’: His new feature film.

Having a dense experience in all possible fields (theatre, cinema and television) and in a short period of time, he estimates that he now knows what he wants to do, always with the dedication that he thinks belongs to this job. Maybe, because he wants to prove that he is not just another pretty face.
