“They killed him with a bullet to the neck,” Adama Keita told AFP
Two young people were shot dead in a suburb of Conakry during a demonstration against the junta that will rule Guinea from 2021, the AFP news agency reported, citing hospital sources and relatives of the victims.
“They killed him with a bullet to the neck,” Adama Keita, a relative of the 18-year-old victim, told AFP. The information was confirmed by an eyewitness and a police officer, who asked to remain anonymous.
Another youth was also killed by a bullet, a doctor at the hospital where the victim was treated told AFP.
News site Guineematin.com contacted the father of the second deceased by phone, who confirmed the death. “Around 12 noon, they called me while I was at the construction site to tell me that (the security forces) shot my child. On the way home, my little brother called to tell me that he died,” Abubakar Toure said.
Guinea’s capital was paralyzed today on the first day of a general strike, a major test for Mamadi Dubouya’s junta. Shops, schools and banks remained closed, most streets were deserted, but sporadic clashes were reported in some districts of the capital Conakry.
