Hamas today paid tribute to the memory of US soldier Aaron Bushnell who set himself on fire outside the Israeli embassy in Washington on Sunday in protest of the war on the Gaza Strip. The 25-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the hospital where he was treated.

The self-immolation, video of which was widely circulated on social media, was “an expression of growing anger among Americans,” the Palestinian Islamist movement said in a press release published in English.

This soldier “will remain immortal in the memory of Palestinians and free people around the world, a symbol of the spirit of solidarity at the global level towards our people and their just struggle,” Hamas emphasizes.

In a video-document made public on social networking platforms, the 25-year-old said that he now refuses to be an “accomplice in genocide”. He doused himself in flammable liquid and set himself on fire, shouting “Freedom in Palestine”.
