Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov confirmed that such a meeting is planned.
Representatives of the Palestinian movements Hamas and Fatah will meet tomorrow, February 29, at Moscow to discuss the formation of a united Palestinian government and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, according to the Russian RIA news agency citing the Palestinian ambassador to Russia.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov confirmed that such a meeting is planned.
According to DW, a conference is scheduled for February 29 in Moscow in which representatives from various Palestinian factions will participate in an “inter-Palestinian dialogue.”
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told Russian state news agency TASS that 12 to 14 organizations will attend the conference, which will last two to three days.
Representatives from the political wing of Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Fatah, the political organization that runs the occupied West Bank, and the Palestine Liberation Organization, or PLO, the broader umbrella organization for all Palestinian groups, will participate.
The various groups take very different positions on issues such as recognizing Israel as a state.
The Fatah-led PLO recognized Israel in 1993, partly in exchange for a possible Palestinian state. Hamas has rejected this stance for years, although recently its rhetoric has softened. Not part of the PLO.
