The director died today in Rome, at the age of 93 Paolo Taviani who, together with Bro of Vittoriowas one of the iconic names of Italian cinema.
At the 1977 Cannes Film Festival, the Taviani brothers won the Palme d’Or and the FIPRESCI Award for the film Pateras Afentis. At the same festival in 1982 they won the Grand Prix du Jury for the film La notte di San Lorenzo. In 2012 they again won the first prize at a festival: the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival with the film Caesar Must Die. Chaos is also a well-known film of theirs.
Paolo Taviani’s wife, Lina Nerli Taviani, has been the costume designer for many of their films.
Born in the Tuscan village of San Miniato in 1931, Paolo studied Musicology and Art History.
