The leader of the extreme right and vice-president of the Italian government Matteo Salvini congratulated Donald Trump today on his victories in the race for the presidential nomination of the Republican Party and said that he hopes for “a change in the White House” with the presidential election in November.

“Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump. Three more steps to change in the White House,” the League chief wrote on X. “From Brussels to Washington, change is coming!” he added.

THE Donald Trump he has won all the primaries that have been held so far. He is almost certain to win his party’s presidential nomination, and his showdown with nomination rival Nikki Haley could end this coming Super Tuesday.

According to the deputy of the left-wing opposition Democratic Party Deborah Serakiani“celebrating Trump’s lead is tantamount to expressing hatred for Italian and European interests.”

“Salvini hopes that we will be left alone with Putin and he will reach us here,” he added, condemning “the pernicious fascination of authoritarian leaders and dictators on the right and all forms of populism.”

Salvini regularly expresses his support for the former US president by denouncing the trials he is facing in the United States and “the judges who make politics”, “in the United States as well as in Italy”.

Salvini’s latest statements came just a few hours after the end of an official visit by Prime Minister Georgia Meloni to the United States and Canada.
