The talks, whose authenticity was confirmed by Berlin, show “once again the direct involvement of the collective West in the conflict in Ukraine,” Peskov said.
The Kremlin condemned today Monday “the direct involvement” of the West in Ukraine after the publication on Russian social media of alleged conversations between German officers about arms deliveries to Ukraine.
These talks, the authenticity of which was confirmed by Berlin, show “once again the direct involvement of the collective West in the conflict in Ukraine”, he said today Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
“The recording itself testifies that within the Bundeswehr (including the German armed forces) they are thoroughly discussing and specific plans to launch salvos on Russian soil,” added the Kremlin spokesman, stressing that “everything is more than obvious”.
Peskov noted that it was unclear whether Germany’s armed forces, the Bundeswehr, were acting on their own initiative or that is part of government policy.
Russian media last week released a recording of a phone conversation between what it said were high-ranking German officers in which they were heard discussing arms supplies to Ukraine and a possible Kiev strike on a bridge in Crimea, resulting in Russian officials to ask for explanations.
Russian news agency TASS reported, citing an unnamed source, that Germany’s ambassador to Russia was summoned today to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Alexander Graf Lambsdorff arrived at the Russian Foreign Ministry this morning without commenting to reporters, according to Russian news agencies.
Already on Saturday, Berlin confirmed that this recording is authentic and that it was “stolen” and stated that it is investigating the matter, while in his first reaction yesterday, Sunday, after the publication in Russia of the recorded conversation, the Minister of Defense of Germany, Boris Pistorius accused Russia of waging “information warfare” aimed at dividing and “destabilizing” his country.
In this conversation, the participants discuss the case in particular delivery of Taurus long-range missiles to Kyiv, German-made, as well as what it would take to allow Ukrainian forces to use them and their potential impact.
Their content embarrasses Germany as Berlin formally refuses to hand over Taurus missiles to Kiev, citing the risk of escalating the conflict.
